Wedding at Cascade Gardens, Victoria Point

  • Posted By cheryl

Making your wedding day unique and memorable does not necessarily involve spending up big.

Second time rounders Letitia and Andrew wanted their ceremony to be relaxed, family focused, and semi traditional with a fun twist.

They set up the ceremony area at Cascade Gardens with an arbour and chairs and were pleased to see that the local Redland City Council had freshened up the paths and gardens around the gazebo so that everything looked wedding ready.

Andrew and Letitia’s sons escorted their grandmothers to their seats, and then walked down the aisle scattering flower petals from their bum bags to the Flaming Lips song, “Do you realise”. Andrew followed the lads down the aisle to the ceremony space.

Then all eyes turned as Letitia and Andrew’s daughters walked down the aisle to “Songbird” by Fleetwood Mac. They were followed by bride, Letitia, who wore a cherry red, sequinned, slinky, Jessica Rabbit style dress. Va va voom!

After I had told the story of the couple’s meeting, first date, and their subsequent falling in love, Letitia and Andrew made their vows to each other, which were so personal, genuine and moving.

As they were introduced as husband and wife, guests randomly stood and started singing along to the recessional song, “So happy together” by the Turtles. I’ve always wanted to be part of a flash mob choir, and although I wasn’t invited to sing along, I joined in by grinning deliriously! It was such a euphoric moment. Can I insist that every wedding have a flash mob singalong?

Midday Wedding at The Grand View Hotel Cleveland

Like many couples, Mary Ann and Martin were both ready to meet someone to share their life with, and they went about creating an online profile to reflect their personalities and criteria.

Martin thought Mary Ann looked adventurous in her kayaking profile pic, and once Mary Ann read that Martin was looking for a fellow “lover of cheese”, she was sold. The two agreed to meet up in person. The click when they met could be heard around the world. (I love this line – I didn’t write it, but I’m determined to find a spot for it in every wedding from now on!)

The brief for their wedding was for a low-key, relaxed, enjoyable, family focused celebration. They didn’t want drama, cliches, pomp, or formality. Both from the UK, Mary Ann and Martin had previously only attended weddings in stuffy churches, town halls and manor houses so they relished the prospect of an outdoor wedding, bathed in Queensland sunshine, and cooled by the fresh bay breezes.

To avoid the need for designated drivers, Mary Ann and Martin hired a bus to collect their guests and transport them to the wedding location. The guests all piled off the bus in high spirits, setting the vibe for a festive ceremony.

Their chosen venue was the historic Grand View Hotel, Queensland’s oldest licensed pub. Built in 1851, the hotel features wrought iron balconies and views out over Moreton Bay towards North Stradbroke Island. Mary Ann and Martin chose to marry under one of the outdoor gazebos on the hotel grounds, aptly named the Stradbroke Gazebo. The couple hired Mel from Miss Weddings to place a circular foliage arbour with white Tiffany guest chairs.

The couple’s favourite memory of the ceremony was when I reminded them to take in all their surroundings to remember the moment – the smiles on the faces of their guests, the bay views, the sunshine, and the look in each other’s eyes. The wedding ceremony is over so quickly, even practical Martin was lost in a sea of blue as he gazed into Mary Ann’s eyes.

After the relaxed and joyous ceremony, the couple and their guests snapped a few photos before heading upstairs to the verandah for a celebration lunch, heeding the advice of Thorin Oakenshield: “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” They enjoyed a delicious meal, the fresh breeze, excellent service, and the sunshine streaming through the trees.

Wedding at Redland Bay Golf Club

Emma and Callum loved the beautiful green grounds at Redland Bay Golf Club, and chose this for their wedding ceremony and reception. The Golf Club has three different ceremony areas to choose from, but as their wedding day was a little windy, the couple decided to switch to the gazebo, which provided some protection from the elements.

Callum and Emma planned their wedding day a year in advance, so had plenty of time to attend to so many details for their celebrations.

The colour palette of the wedding was dusty pink and eucalyptus green, which was carried through from the bridesmaid dresses to the cupcakes.

Emma wore a beautiful lace dress from @luv bridal, and wore a white floral headband in her hair with a veil. Callum was very handsome in a three piece grey suit with a dusty pink tie.

The dusty pink colour was continued in the florals, with Emma’s bouquet, Callum’s boutonniere, and florals on the signage created by Mary from @lillicreek. The elegant fresh flowers were quite a feature.

Taking a peek into the reception room, a lolly buffet (also in pale pinks and greens) had been set up by Simone with cupcakes in the same hues.

The room (and also the ceremony arbour) was styled by Beautiful Illusions. The round tables featured white cloths with sparkly gold runners and gold chair sashes. The napkins were pale pink. The centrepieces were glass pyramids with foliage, white and pink flowers, and fairy lights.

So many little elements of the wedding really added to the ambience and made this a wedding to remember.

Wedding at Rainforest Gardens, Mount Cotton

Wedding at Rainforest Gardens Mount Cotton

Rainforest Gardens is located atop Mount Cotton in the Redlands, south east of Brisbane city. The property features over 20 acres of tropical gardens, with a purpose-built wedding ceremony platform which overlooks a lilly padded pond with fountains. Timber benches are terraced into the hillside for guest seating. The gardens are always shady, even on a very warm Brisbane summer day. A new pavilion has been constructed in the event of rainy weather, and the venue also provides a built-in sound system for ceremonies. You might recognise this venue from the movie Ticket to Paradise with Julia Roberts and George Clooney.

Gorgeous bride, Katie, and her handsome man, Jerome, are absolutely besotted with each other. Their excitement and passion gave a real buzz to their wedding day and guests were uplifted to see two such genuine humans seal their joyous connection. The kiss is a moment of euphoria in the wedding ceremony, after all the build up and anxiety of arriving at the wedding venue is finally released and the couple celebrate their official newlywed status.

Katie wrote, “Cheryl, thank you so much for being our absolutely amazing celebrant. We are so happy you were part of our special day and part of all the enerfy and magic the day brought. Than you for being so patient, kind, and funny with us. We had so many beautiful comments about how you performed and spoke during the ceremony. You really kept us all calm, relaxed, and grounded. And thank you for being so prompt with lodging all the paperwork and all the emails and calls!”

Redland Bay farm wedding

My first ceremony for 2023 was early in the New Year. Like many school teachers, Donna chose the school holidays for her wedding date. Daniel was keen for a private area, without onlookers, and so they chose a private farm in Redland Bay for their micro wedding. Inviting only immediate family ensured their wedding would be affordable. The brief was for a relaxed and enjoyable day with a family focus.

Donna and Daniel hired to team at Elope Brisbane to source a suitable venue. Redland Bay, just on the outskirts of Brisbane, still features some rural areas, with creeks, gum trees, and lush grass. This property even has an authentic tractor for those farm wedding photos.  Mel from Miss Weddings styled the ceremony area with a bamboo arbour and bamboo guest chairs. The colour palette was neutral.

Donna walked down the aisle to Love Someone by Lukas Graham. She looked radiant and relaxed in a long white gown, carrying a bouquet of white flowers. Their nephews were armed with bubble guns which created a fun and light walk back down the aisle.

The couple promised to live life valuing each other as equal partners. And isn’t that what it’s all about?

When they first met, Troy noticed that Kirstie just didn’t stop talking. He liked that he could just smile and nod and not have to say too much. Kirstie noticed that Troy was a great listener. He never interrupted, and just let her talk and talk. It was a match made in heaven, and Troy realised this after about 6 years of knowing each other, and asked Kirstie to be his girlfriend. That was eight years before the day that Troy and Kirstie said, “I do” at Redland Bay Golf Club. Kirstie’s brother and his mate were Flower Men, and dispersed rose petals along the aisle before Kirstie walked down the aisle accomapnied by her dad. The bridesmaids were Kirstie’s sisters and friends, and they wore dusty pink dresses.

Kirstie wrote, “Thank you so much for performing our wedding. We had the most beautiful day. You had everyone laughing and crying and that’s exactly what we wanted. We received so many compliments about you and how you were the perfect fit for our day. We will definitely be leaving you a 5 star review and be recommending you to family and friends. ”

Teneill and James wanted to be married, but they didn’t want all the drama that can accompany a big wedding, so they asked the Team at Elope Brisbane to create a relaxed micro wedding with just their immediate families. Following their intimate ceremony at Rainforest Gardens, Mount Cotton, the combined family celebrated with dinner at a local restaurant.

Teneill walked into the gardens on the arm of her dad, accompanied by the song, “All of me” by John Legend – the Lindsey Sterling string version.

Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry told the couple’s cute story of meeting as teens working at Bunnings. Their family grew with the addition of their furbaby, Beau. Together, Teneill and James enjoy a road trip, with James driving and Teneill in charge of tunes and snacks. They are looking forward to living each day together with maximum happiness and laughter.

Rainforest Gardens has so many lush photo locations – photographer Romana Saeheng captured newlywed photos around the property.

Pop Up weddings are being popular with couples looking for an easy and affordable wedding option.

The team at Elope Brisbane create a couple of Pop Up Wedding events each year, at different locations around Brisbane. Couples are able to save expense by sharing the set up costs with other couples by using the same venue on the same day.

Fiction Bar and Restaurant at Raby Bay Marina, Cleveland, was the setting for a recent Pop Up wedding package.

Both busy working long hours, Myrlie and Craig thought the Pop Up Wedding event at Fiction Bar and Restaurant at Raby Bay Marina looked like the perfect option for their wedding. They chose the lunch option for their celebrations.

Suzie from An Eye for Style Wedding Hair and Makeup at Cleveland styled Myrlie’s hair, then Steve from Kandid Kombi picked her up from the salon and transported her to Fiction Bar, where Mel from Miss Weddings had an arbour and chairs set up for the ceremony. A bouquet of flowers was provided for Myrlie, with a bouttoniere for fiance Craig.

Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry delivered a sweet and light ceremony for the couple, with photographer Romana Saeheng capturing pics of the couple, and then taking them on a photo shoot around the marina at Raby Bay.

The package included a lunch at Fiction Bar and Restaurant at Raby Bay Marina.

The wedding cake, which was also included in the package, was from our local cake artist, Simone from Cakes by Simone.

The next Pop Up wedding date with the team at Elope Brisbane is 23/6/23 at Point Lookout, North Stradbroke Island. This is a ceremony only package, with clients able to source their own meal locations on the island. Four elopement times are available, with two sittings booked, and a third in negotiation. The couple, with up to ten guests, are provided with ceremony styling, a celebrant to legally officiate at the ceremony, a photographer to capture the ceremony with family and couple photos to follow, and a dozen cupcakes. The concept of a Pop-Up Wedding is a fairly recent phenomenon, but it is a concept which has become popular with couples looking for an affordable wedding package with minimal organising to do.

The team at Elope Brisbane create a couple of Pop Up Wedding days each year, at different locations around Brisbane. Couples are able to save expense by sharing the set up costs with other couples by using the same venue on the same day.

Fiction Bar and Restaurant at Raby Bay Marina, Cleveland, was the setting for one such Pop Up Wedding package.

Niamh and Daniel chose the champagne breakfast time slot. Niamh was awake early, having her hair styled and make up applied by Suzie from An Eye for Style Wedding Hair and Makeup at Cleveland. Steve from Kandid Kombi picked up Niamh from the salon and transported her to Fiction Bar, where Mel from Miss Weddings had an arbour and chairs set up for the ceremony. A bouquet of flowers was provided for Niamh, with a bouttoniere for fiance Daniel.

Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry delivered a personalised and relaxed ceremony for the couple, with photographer Romana Saeheng capturing pics of the couple, and then taking them on a photo shoot to the Lighthouse Cleveland for some couple and family photos.

Wedding at Redland Bay Golf Club

Sammie and Jack chose the vine covered arbour at Redland Bay Golf Club for their wedding ceremony.

They decided on a relaxed approach to a traditional wedding ceremony, with Sammie accompanied by four bridesmaids in emerald green, and Jack was supported by four groomsmen wearing grey suits with a black shirt underneath. The florals were lavender from @the flower shed.

Sammie walked down the aisle with her dad to “Can’t help falling in love” – the Kina Grannis version.

Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry told the story of the couple. Sammie and Jack’s first date was a coffee date at Zaraffas. The date went on for much longer than planned, and by the end of the date, Sammie knew that Jack was someone she wanted to see again. The kiss sealed the deal – they were both thinking about that kiss for days.

In her wedding vows, Sammie said, ” I look forward to building our family and experiencing all the moments and milestones this brings.”

After the ceremony, Redland Bay Golf Club Coordinator, Chelsea, packed snacks for the wedding party and led them around the beautiful golf course in golf buggies for a photo session with Redlands local photographer, Romana Saeheng Photography and Graphic Design.

The pair also hired Kandid Kombi for some fun guest entertainment during the reception.

Congratulations!
