What time should my wedding ceremony in Brisbane be at?

  • Posted By cheryl
  • on March 10,2023

When deciding what time your wedding ceremony will be held at, there are a few factors to consider.

These include what time the sun will be setting at, the amount of shade at the location of your ceremony, and how many photos you are requiring.

Firstly, you will need to find out what time the sun will be setting on your wedding day.

In Brisbane, the sun sets at about 5pm on the Winter Solstice (June 22) and about 6:45pm on the Summer Solstice (December 22). On the equinox, sunset is approximately 5:45 to 6:00pm.

The most flattering, soft light for wedding photos is the last one hour before sunset.

So for a winter wedding in Brisbane, photos would be 4pm to 5pm, which would require a 3pm ceremony.

For a Spring or Autumn wedding in Brisbane, photos would be 4:30 to 5:30pm, requiring a 3:30 ceremony. And for a Summer wedding, photos would be 5:30pm to 6:30pm, so a ceremony time of 4 to 4:30pm would be recommended.

Of course, if your ceremony will be held in a very shady area which loses light earlier, those times might be brought forward.

Before deciding on your wedding ceremony time, you may discuss this with your wedding photographer, whose experience will help to suggest the optimum time line for your wedding day.

When you live in an area, you come to know those iconic locations which bring forward so many great memories. The Redlands has several locations like this, with one being the Lighthouse at Cleveland Point.

Not just a popular location to walk by the bay or indulge in some sensational calamari and chips, The Lighthouse at Cleveland Point is also a popular place to be married. On sunny afternoons, there is always a refreshing breeze at Cleveland Point, and the sun sparkles off the water.

This wedding ceremony setup with white America chairs, a white arbour with white draping and florals, and a hessian aisle runner is by local Redlands stylists, @Beautiful Illusions. The family run business has a showroom and warehouse at Capalaba, and is an established business with many years experience in the wedding industry.

Wedding at The Lighthouse Restaurant, Cleveland

With five teens/young adults between them, Emma and Craig’s emphasis for their wedding day (and in fact their entire relationship) was family.

When they first met, Craig and Emma noticed that they shared common values and priorities, and were both committed to providing a healthy and happy lifestyle for their children. These ideals were continued on to their wedding plans, as they found colour coordinated outfits for their children, and asked them to stand by their side as they made their vows to each other.

Unfortunately, the wet weather on their wedding day resulted in the Plan B ceremony location, and luckily, the Lighthouse Restaurant at Cleveland has a wet weather space. Emma and Craig were able to hold their ceremony under the gazebo which adjoins the dining space, overlooking the bay at Cleveland.

As a further idea to include their children in the ceremony, Emma and Craig purchased a vase and vials of different coloured sand. In turn, each family member added a coloured sand to the vase, which will be a colourful momento of the wedding day.

Vintage Wedding at The Courthouse Restaurant Cleveland

The historic Courthouse Restaurant overlooking the bay at Cleveland provided the perfect backdrop for this vintage styled wedding. The bride wore a retro slinky white silky dress, with white gloves. Her hair was styled in victory rolls and her lipstick was a scarlet red. The groom and groomsen wore suits and waistcoats.

Live music set a classy tone for the post ceremony champagne on the lawn and then the band played after dinner as the dance floor opened.

The couple arrived in a vintage London cab.

Morning Wedding at Cleveland

Aurelia and David are the most adorable young couple who just glow with happiness when they are together. They chose a morning wedding ceremony at Cleveland, and were blessed with a clear and calm day. The early ceremony time made the most of the day, when the sunshine was mild and the breeze was light.

Aurelia and her bridesmaids were beautified by Bella Brides, before being chauffeured to the ceremony by Kandid Kombi. The colourful blooms were by Little Miss Flower Shoppe.

Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry worked with the couple to compile their story. They decided on an intimate and quirky ceremony, with no cringe factor. David and Aurelia first met playing Dungeons and Dragons. When they first met, Aurélia noticed that David was the most optimistic person she had ever encountered. She genuinely didn’t realise that people like him even existed. David noticed that Aurélia was easy to get along with and had a great sense of humour. She was always quick with the punchy quips. And David noticed that he felt so open and comfortable whenever he was around Aurélia – he could just be himself without worry.

David and Aurelia delighted their friends by walking out of their ceremony to music from Portal. Photographer Sylvie from Papillon Studio captured some beautiful photos of the day, and as a bonus, could converse in fluent French with family members.

The newlyweds celebrated with friends and family at a brunch reception at Fiction Bar at Cleveland, followed by cake by Cakes by Simone.

Wedding at Raby Bay Foreshore Park

After all the nerves and build up before a wedding day, it’s smiles like this that show the pure bliss of the moment.

We love a (biodegradable) petal toss!

After an early morning hair and makeup appointment, Kyla was chauffered to her ceremony at Raby Bay Foreshore by Kandid Kombi. Her flowers were by Little Miss Flower Shoppe. Kyla walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of,”Say you won’t go” sung by guitarist, Simon Meola.

Kyla and Josh requested a classy but relaxed ceremony, and gave Cheryl Landsberry – Marriage Celebrant a few dot points about their meeting.

“Kyla and Joshua first met against the odds, as they were separated by 5,000 kilometres. Kyla was studying at the University of Queensland, and Joshua was working away in the town of Onslow, Western Australia, in the Pilbara region. And they both swiped right.

Joshua and Kyla made a connection quickly, texting and chatting every day. But Kyla was quick to point out that she wasn’t interested in a long distance relationship, so friendship might be the best option.

Not one to back down or admit defeat, Joshua promptly threw himself off a scaffold to ensure a one way ticket home to Kyla, and never left her side again – so Kyla tells the story.”

Kyla and Josh enjoyed a lunchtime reception at Fiction Bar & Restaurant at Raby Bay Harbour, which was followed by a cruise on the bay.

Nicole and Trent decided on an elegant and romantic wedding, with their ceremony at Raby Bay Foreshore, and celebrations afterwards at Fiction Bar at Cleveland. Nicole chose blush and silver for the colour palette. They asked the team at Elope Brisbane to collate all their wedding professionals to ensure a stress free preparation to their dream wedding.

Stunning Nicole was pampered by hair and makeup artist, Suzie, at An Eye for Style Wedding Hair and Makeup at Cleveland. Her bouquet was from Little Miss Flower Shoppe at Wynnum. Nicole was transported to the ceremony location in a stylish, silver Rolls Royce from Our Weddings Cars. Trent and the kids took the fun option of arriving by Kombi.

The classic arbour and Americana chairs at the ceremony location by Raby Bay were styled by Mel from Miss Weddings. The simple ceremony was led by local celebrant, Cheryl Landsberry, who guided the family as they all added different colours of sand to a vase in a family sand ceremony. Photographer, Romana Saeheng, took the opportunity to capture not only gorgeous photos of the couple, but also their extended family while they were all dressed up.

Looking at this gorgeous shot from Photos by Nell (who is a licenced drone operator), you might decide that a drone photographer is well worth it.

Local sweethearts, Kelsey and Andy, met at the gym, where they noticed each other, but stayed focused on their workout.  https://velocityfitnessandhealth.com

Their PT / cupid, David, organised a night out so Andy and Kelsey could meet, and from that moment on, they have been inseparable.

Andy proposed at the top of Mount Tamborine, and the pair started planning their wedding day.

The Courthouse Restaurant, by the bay at Cleveland, was the venue for their ceremony and reception.
