Micro Wedding at City Botanic Gardens, Brisbane

Rhett and Chitra wanted a simple and fuss-free wedding with just immediate family and booked the Wedding Lawn at City Botanic Gardens for their ceremony. They asked the team at Elope Brisbane to take care of all the details.

Mel and Deb from Miss Weddings set up bamboo chairs and draped the bamboo arbour with a white cloth.

Chitra walked down into the ceremony on the arm of Rhett’s step-father, Greg, to Christina Perri’s song, A Thousand Years. Rhett’s mum, Joy, had a tear in her eye when she saw the look on Rhett’s face as he watched his bride arrive.

Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry created a sweet ceremony for the couple, and they signed the certificates with Rhett’s sisters as witnesses.

Photographer Romana Saeheng captured all the magical moments of the ceremony, then took the couple around the Botanic Gardens for a photo shoot amongst the floral landscapes. This photo was amongst the snapdragons in the formal flower garden.

The family then headed off in search of some cool drinks and a long and relaxing lunch.

Wedding at City Botanic Gardens, Brisbane

The City Botanic Gardens are situated between Alice Street and the Brisbane River, at the ends of Edward Street and George Street, Brisbane City. (If you’re new to Brisbane, the King streets run north-west and the Queen Streets run north-east.)

Underneath shady trees, generations of Brisbanites have enjoyed the manicured gardens for walks, picnics, and weddings.

The City Botanic Gardens has nine sites available to hire for weddings in Brisbane City. Sites can be booked through Brisbane City Council for a minimum of two hours. The current price is $177.20 per hour.

This setup, by stylist Miss Weddings, is the site known as Area 2 – the Wedding Lawn.

A Botanic Gardens landscaper tended to the area before the wedding, ensuring the paths were leaf free and the area was immaculate for the wedding.

Parking is available outside the City Botanic Gardens on Alice Street. Meters are available for 3 hour parking. An alternative is to park at the nearby QUT Gardens Point campus car park.

One of the most important points to note if you are planning a wedding in the City Botanic Gardens is to ensure your guests know which area in the gardens to find. Maybe you could include a diagram with the invitation. Just inside the main gate on Alice Street is a map which your guests can refer to – but only if they know the location where they are required to be.

Another important note is to ensure guests don’t accidentally drive to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mount Coot-tha. Ensure you specify that your wedding is at the City Botanic Gardens on Alice Street. Although only a 15 minute drive away, there has been many a mix-up when guests don’t realise that there are two different Botanic Gardens in Brisbane.

If you are looking for the Jacaranda trees in the City Botanic Gardens, you will find one at the Edward Street entrance, and another near Parliament House at the George Street entrance. The Jacarandas bloom in Brisbane from September to November, and always make for gorgeous wedding photos.
