I had a phone call today from a bride whose upcoming wedding is in the planning stages. She asked if I as the celebrant would refrain from asking, “is there anyone here who objects to the wedding?”
Her fiance’s mates are “characters” and the bride was nervous about the kind of responses that might be forthcoming.
She was very relieved that I replied that not only is it not a legal requirement to ask, “does anyone object?” but it’s also something that I don’t include in a ceremony.
Everyone has that one friend…
Do you agree?
